30 May How many hours of sunshine do we enjoy on the Costa Blanca?
If you are thinking of building a luxury villa somewhere warm and facing the sea in Southern Europe, Alicante (on the Costa Blanca of Spain) is one of the most desirable options.
The first is, without a doubt, the weather.
Alicante has an average of 320 sunny days a year. The winters are mild and the summers hot, with the beach always inviting us to take a bath.
In January we enjoy an average temperature of 12°C, and in August 26.5°C. Starting in May (sometimes it is earlier than April) the first days begin to appear with highs of about 30 degrees.
? In total we enjoy 2,900 hours of sunshine each year. ?
In any case, there is an average of 6 hours of sunshine per day in January and 7 hours in February, a luxury compared to other areas of Europe.
Look at these people in the photo. Most of them are Dutch retirees: it’s New Year’s Day and they’ve taken a swim at El Albir beach (the beach of a wonderful town called Alfaz del Pi).
This is how they enjoy Alicante, and this is how Spanish journalists tell it. We are in the news at this time of year because the weather on the Costa Blanca is not the same as in the rest of Spain, far from it…
I don’t know exactly where you live or what the weather is in your area, but wouldn’t you change the place where you are for a Coast where the sun shines 90% of the year?
Don’t you want to have a house where you can spend your vacations (or your life) in a permanent summer?
I did it.
I am Belgian, and I love my country, but when I discovered the Costa Blanca it didn’t take me long to move.
Today I have been working and living in a small coastal town for 23 years that I would not change for anything: Moraira.
But about my story, which could be similar to yours if you finally dare to make this trip, I will tell you in another email.
Costa Blanca: Why is it called that?
Perhaps you have wondered about the origin of the name of our coast.
And the truth is that I love this story.
There are two versions.
The first is that it is due to the contrast between the blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the white sand of our beaches, a color that also characterizes the traditional houses of our towns, with facades where lime is the protagonist.
The second version is less romantic, but still curious: they say that the concept was invented in 1957 by the British Airways company as a sloganto promote an air connection between London and Valencia.
But that’s a matter I’ll have to investigate ?
